Me/di/at/ed

Me/di/at/ed – Naccarato: We occupy space and there seems no getting around it. For the most part, our occupation of space revolves around prescribed rituals – performative and repetitive actions which define our personal, social and cultural identities.

Quantum. Dystopias.

∝ I sit and stare at a fixed point in space. this space is abstract. made up of millions of possibilities. of atoms. of light. and numbers. the longer I stare, the more fixated I become.

Oil on Paper, Paintings, Montreal, 2002-2004

Between 2002 and 2004, I began experimenting with painting directly on paper with oil paints. Most of the work focused on Portraits, Figurative and Landscapes. Some such as the Parc LaFontaine Series were preliminary sketches for a series ( of the same name) of large canvases measuring 8′ x 2′. The series was inspired during my visits to Parc La Fontaine, a 34 ha (84 acres) urban park located in the borough of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

on Paper: Montreal, 2000-2004

Between 2000 and 2004, a majority of the sketches were created while frequenting la Porté Disparu, located in Plateau, Montreal. La Porté Disparu acted as a critical meeting place for artists, poets and musicians, discussing ideas, philosophies and politics. The cafe closed its doors in 2004.

referencing the Canadian Identity

What does it mean to be Canadian? There does not seem to exist one absolute criteria that could easily define this nationalistic sentiment. One may inquire into the social, political and historical context of a country; the defining attributes of its people; the significant contributions of its leaders
