Short Stories / Reloaded (Part One)
sound. of one hand Clapping
sound. of one hand Clapping (2024) explores in part the theories of the post-structuralist philosophies of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in their work Capitalism and Schizophrenia.
One of the main objectives of post-structuralists was to question the objectivity or stability of ideas such as binary oppositions, and how culture cannot be understood by any modelled structure such as language.
A quote from Capitalism and Schizophrenia, ‘he passes his time oscillating inside his network of signs‘ initially inspired this work, but later I decided to title this work after the Zen koan ‘what is the sound of one hand clapping‘.
Of course, as with all Zen koans, there are no right or wrong answers. The idea is to meditate on the meaning of the question – if one even exists. But one may be tempted to try – to imagine the sound of one hand clapping, as half-claps or of a hand slapping the air around it.

the Music Box (2024)
There is something haunting and magical about a Music Box. I’ve always been fascinated by them – how they contain the memories of those who owned them, and how such memories are triggered when the lid is lifted.
How in one music box I encountered, a dancer (ballerina) would pop up and begin her endless circular loop to the accompaniment of a singular tune – over and over and over again.

Prelude in E Minor (2024)
This piece, Prelude in E Minor takes it’s title, music and inspiration from Frédéric Chopin’s short piano piece, Prelude in E Mino (opus 24, No 4). by Frédéric Chopin (1839).
I was exploring ways to express how media – television, film, novels and social media, can distort our perception of reality. How we are apt to sit back and view the world around us from the safety of our homes.
In a sense it’s all about how we frame our reality, how we choose to see and experience only specific parts of the whole.

intersection / Part 1 (2024)
intersection / Part 1 is influenced by my work as a painter, having painted with oils for over thirty years. It was around 2005, that I began to experiment with digital software to see if I could push the boundaries of the traditional art form of painting in a new direction.
It was an exciting time to be exploring digital-based media especially with the advent of web 2.0 technology which allowed for the interaction and collaboration with other artists via social media and a virtual community.
I held my first virtual interactive exhibition in 2006 through the social platform Flickr, which was the predecessor and template to most social media platforms today such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
