Between 1993 and 1999, a majority of the sketches were created while frequenting The Green Room Cafe, located off a back alley behind Bloor Street, between Brunswick Avenue and Borden Street at the top of David French Lane in The Annex, Toronto. During this time the cafe was a hidden gem known only to a few, mainly artists, including painters, poets and musicians. It was a place to share ideas, hang art and recite poetry. By the time I moved to Montreal in 2000, the place had become quite popular – overrun by students from the neighbouring University of Toronto – and its once distinctive atmosphere lost.
The cafe permanently closed its doors on Oct. 27, 2017.
